Description

Cilostazol (Pletal) is used for the treatment of intermittent claudication. This is a condition which is caused by the narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs with blood. Patients with intermittent claudication develop pain when they walk because not enough oxygen-containing blood reaches the active leg muscles.  Cilostazol improves walking speed and walking distance among patients with intermittent claudication. However, it does not cure intermittent claudication.

Cilostazol (Pletal) is used to treat intermittent claudication. This is a cramping pain that develops in the legs when you walk and is due to bad circulation. Cilostazol relieves these symptoms by increasing the blood flow to the affected areas and reducing the quantity of blood clots.  This condition, affecting several million mostly elderly Americans, results from peripheral arteriosclerotic vascular disease, when fatty deposits build up in the legs and interfere with the blood supply to leg muscles. It can cause considerable discomfort when walking and seriously interfere with people's ability to exercise.

Cilostazol increases the walking distance before pain develops.

Possible Cilostazol (Pletal) Side Effects
The most common side effects are headache,  abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, fluid retention, dizziness and an abnormal heartbeat.
