Drostanolone Propionate is a potent synthetic androgenic anabolic steroid similar to testosterone. Drostanolone Propionate is indicated in postmenopausal women with recurrent breast cancer, in a combined hormone therapy.

Pharmacology:
Drostanolone Propionate is a synthetic androgen, or male hormone, similar to testosterone. Drostanolone Propionate works by attaching itself to androgen receptors; this causes it to interact with the parts of the cell involved in the making of proteins. It may cause an increase in the synthesis of some proteins or a decrease in the synthesis of others. These proteins have a variety of effects, including blocking the growth of some types of breast cancer cells, stimulating cells that cause male sexual characteristics, and stimulating the production of red blood cells.

Warnings:
Patients should be instructed to report any of the following: nausea, vomiting, changes in skin colour, and ankle swelling.
Males should be instructed to report too frequent or persistent erections of the penis and females any hoarseness, acne, changes in menstrual periods or increase in facial hair.

Interactions:
Androgens may increase sensitivity to oral anticoagulants. Dosage of the anticoagulant may require reduction in order to maintain satisfactory therapeutic hypoprothrombinemia.
Concurrent administration of oxyphenbutazone and androgens may result in elevated serum levels of oxyphenbutazone.
In diabetic patients, the metabolic effects of androgens may decrease blood glucose and therefore, insulin requirements.

Contraindications :

    * Known hypersensitivity to the drug
    * Males with carcinoma of the breast
    * Males with known or suspected carcinoma of the prostate gland
    * Women known or suspected to be pregnant
    * Patients with serious cardiac, hepatic or renal disease

Mechanism Of Action:
Drostanolone Propionate is a synthetic androgenic anabolic steroid and is approximately 5 times as potent as natural methyltestosterone. Like testosterone and other androgenic hormones, drostanolone binds to the androgen receptor. It produces retention of nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus; increases protein anabolism; and decreases amino acid catabolism. The antitumour activity of drostanolone appears related to reduction or competitive inhibition of prolactin receptors or estrogen receptors or production.
