Fareston (Toremifene)  is indicated for treatment of metastatic breast cancer in postmenopausal women with estrogen-receptor–positive or unknown tumors.

Fareston (Toremifene) pills are used in postmenopausal women to treat breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic breast cancer).  It is usually used to treat cancer that needs estrogen, a female hormone.  FFareston (Toremifene)  is a nonsteroidal antiestrogen that blocks the effects of estrogen in the breast tissue, thereby slowing or stopping the growth of cancer.

The risk of certain side effects is actually quite a bit lower with Fareston (Toremifene) than witjh other medicines from this group. This is going to be of interest to people who have issues with “floaters” in their vision, which is sometimes caused by Nolvadex and Clomid, as this product may represent significantly less occular toxicity. It also differs slightly from Nolvadex in its potent with regards to improving lipid (cholesterol) profiles.

Contraindications and cautions:

Side effects:

The side effects that are most likely to occur are: hot flushes, sweating, uterine bleeding, white discharge, tiredness, nausea (feeling sick), rash, itching, dizziness and depression.
Other possible side effects are: headache, weight increase, swelling, sleep disorders, shortness of breath, constipation, loss of appetite, reversible sight problems and vomiting.
Rare but serious side effects are; blood clots in veins of legs and/or lung, changes in the lining of the uterus (endometrium) and liver problems. You should inform your doctor if you notice any of the following symptoms: swelling or tenderness in your calf, unexplained shortness of breath or sudden chest pain, vaginal bleeding or changes in vaginal discharge.
Hypercalcemia and Tumor Flare: As with other antiestrogens, hypercalcemia and tumor flare have been reported in some breast cancer patients with bone metastases during the first weeks of treatment with
Fareston (Toremifene). Tumor flare does not imply failure of treatment or represent tumor progression. If hypercalcemia occurs, appropriate measures should be instituted and if hypercalcemia is severe, Fareston (Toremifene) treatment should be discontinued.
Fareston (Toremifene) may cause fetal harm when administered to pregnant women.

Interactions:
The effect of blood thinning medications such as nicoumalone and warfarin may be enhanced and so there is an increased risk of bleeding.
The antiepileptics carbamazepine, phenobarbital and phenytoin may reduce the levels of toremifene in the blood.
There is an increased risk of hypercalcaemia if thiazide diuretics are used with toremifene.
If you are taking any of these medicines or other drugs you should inform your doctor.

Overdosage:
If Fareston (Toremifene) overdose is suspected, seek urgent medical help. Symptoms of Fareston (Toremifene) overdose may include dizziness, headache, nausea, loss of coordination, and hallucinations.
