Oftacain (oxybuprocain)  is a local anesthetic. It is generally used to stop the pain in a certain area of the eye. It is applied as drops. Oftacain (oxybuprocain) is used to temporarily anaesthetise the front surface of the eye so that the eye pressure can be measured or a foreign body removed. The eye care product may be less irritating than tetracaine, but the onset and duration of action are similar to tetracaine.

Side effects:
You may feel stinging sensation, swelling, itching or burning of the eye. If any of them are bothersome inform your doctor.

Cautions:
Your vision may be blurred temporally after application. Try not to drive or operate machinery while taking the drug.
