Side Effects of Bactrim
Bactrim has some mild side effects, which include tongue swelling, head spinning, ringing in the ears, dizziness, joint pain, and lack of sleep. Then there are certain serious Bactrim side effects such as fever, sore throat, severe skin blistering or peeling, skin rash, bloody diarrhoea, hallucinations, seizure, slow heart rate, severe nausea, jaundice, and body aches, all of which need immediate medical attention. These Bactrim side effects could be symptoms of an overdose or could indicate the need for you to take alternatives. If untreated, these could be dangerous.

Certain Bactrim side effects might also be aggravated due to alcohol consumption, so adult patients should take care to stay away from drinking.

Guidelines before Taking
Increase your fluid intake for the period you are on Bactrim treatment. Use this drug with care in younger patients as they are more prone to its side effects. Also exercise caution when administering Bactrim to patients with asthma, blood disorders, or severe allergies. Anaemic patients have a deficiency of folic acid in their body, which might be further aggravated by taking Bactrim; such patients should be put on alternative medicines.

What are the common dosages of Bactrim?
There are two main dosage strengths of Bactrim, one containing 80mg and 400mg and the other containing 160mg and 800mg of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole respectively. The first one is the more common dose while the second one is known as a double dose.
