Propecia Active Ingredients:
Finasteride
Propecia Therapeutic actions:
Propecia (Finasteride) blocks an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase, which is necessary to change testosterone to another hormone that causes the prostate to grow. As a result, the size of the prostate is decreased. The effect of Propecia on the prostate lasts only as long as the medicine(propecia) is taken. If it is stopped, the prostate begins to grow again.
Propecia reduces DHT, a key cause of hair loss, by inhibiting the formation of DHT in scalp.
Lowering DHT appears to inhibit the further shrinking of affected hair follicles. DHT is a substance in the body that can shrink the hair follicle until it no longer produces visible hair.
Propecia blocks the formation of DHT and, in this way, appears to interrupt the development of male pattern hair loss.
What is Propecia (Finasteride) used for?:
Propecia treats urinary problems caused by an enlarged prostate gland (benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH). Propecia is also used to lower the risk of needing surgery to treat BPH.
Propecia is the only once-a-day pill approved by the FDA for the
treatment of certain types of male pattern hair loss in men. Propecia
reduces DHT, a key cause of hair loss.
