Description
Norvasc (Amlodipine) is a calcium channel blocker used to control high blood pressure or angina (chest pain). Reducing high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems.

Active Ingredients:
Amlodipine
Therapeutic actions:
Norvasc tablets contain the active ingredient amlodipine besilate. It works by blocking calcium channels in muscle cells of blood vessels. Norvasc acts on the muscle cells in the walls of arteries, causing them to relax and allowing them to widen. It makes easier for the heart to pump blood and reduce its workload.
Indications:
Norvasc is used to treat:
• High blood pressure (hypertension)
• A severe form of angina pectoris, not caused by exertion (Prinzmetalis angina)
• Angina pectoris
Contraindications and cautions:
You should not use Norvasc :
• if you have an allergy to calcium channel blockers (dihydropyridines)
• if you have an angina not well controlled by medical treatment (unstable angina)
• if you have failure of the heart to maintain adequate circulation of blood
• if you have narrowing of the main artery coming from the heart
• if you are pregnant
• if you are breastfeeding
You should talk with your health care provider prior to taking Norvasc if:
• you have liver disease
• you are over 65 years of age Warning!
• Norvasc is not recommended to use in children .
• You should take Norvasc regularly for it to be effective.
It may be several weeks before you experience the full benefit of Norvasc, and you should continue using it even if you are feeling better.
Side effects:
There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Norvasc will experience it or any other.
More common side effects are : Fatigue, flushing, dizziness, fluid retention and swelling, migraine, palpitations (fluttery or throbbing heartbeat)
Less common side effects are: sleepiness, abdominal pain, nausea.
