Therapeutic actions:
Gliquidone lowers blood sugar level by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin and promotes the cells to absorb more sugar from the blood stream.
What is it used for?:

Gliuquidone is used to treat Diabetes mellitus type 2.
Contraindications and cautions:
During treatment with gliquidone please refrain from drinking excessive amounts of alcohol and also be sure to check your blood sugar level regularly. Gliquidone should be used with caution if the treatment is used for people with liver disease and elders.
Glurenorm should not be used when suffering from:
• Life long inherited blood disease because it can cause different problems even porphyrias (mental condition).
• An allergy to the active ingredient or any other ingredients in Glurenorm.
• Gliquidone should not be normally used during pregnancy if you are planning to get pregnant or aciidently become pregnant seek medical advise from your local health care professional.
• Gliquidone should not be used by nursing mothers because large amounts of the drug may pass into the breast milk.

Use of Gliquidone may result in:
• Low blood glucose level (hypoglycaemia)

• mono-amine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI's);
• non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS);
• sulphonamide antibiotics;
• co-trimoxazole;
• testosterone;
• beta-blockers;
• clofibrate.
• ACE inhibitors;
• anabolic steroids;
The following drugs may reduce the effect of gliquidone and so may raise blood sugar levels:
• diuretics (loop and thiazide diuretics);
• corticosteroids;
• oral contraceptive pill;
• phenytoin;
• chlorpromazine.
Gliquidone alters the effects of warfarin and the other coumarins.
