Active Ingredients:
Fluticasone / Salmeterol
Therapeutic actions:
Advair (fluticasone/salmeterol) is one of a group of medicines called long-acting bronchodilators. It relaxes the muscles in the walls of the small air passages in the lungs. This helps to open up the airways and makes it easier for air to get in and out of the lungs. The effects of salmeterol xinafoate usually last for at least twelve hours. When it is taken regularly, it helps the small air passages to STAY OPEN. This is why salmeterol xinafoate is called a iprotectori.
Fluticasone proprionate is one of a group of medicines called corticosteroids which are often referred to simply as isteroidsi. Corticosteroids are used to treat breathing problems because they have an anti-inflammatory action. They reduce the swelling and irritation in the walls of the small air passages in the lungs and so ease breath problems. Corticosteroids also help to prevent attacks of asthma. This is why they are called ipreventersi. Fluticasone propionate should be taken regularly every day.
What is it used for?:
Baseline therapy of the diseases accompanied by inversive respiratory obstruction (including bronchial asthma in children and adults) when purpose of the combined therapy is reasonable:
- for patients receiving beta2- adrenoceptor agonist supporting therapy of long action and glucocorticosteroids therapy for inhalations;
- for patients, who have glucocorticosteroids therapy for inhalations symptoms of disease;
- for patients using bronchodilator on a regular basis, to whom is medically necessary glucocorticosteroids therapy for inhalations.
Contraindications and cautions:
• Hypersensibility to Seretide components;
• Children under 4 years old;
Seretide should be used cautiously:
• Mycotic, viral or bacterial infections of respiratory apparatus, including pulmonary tuberculosis;
• Thyrotoxicosis, hypothyroidism;
• Pheochromocytoma;
• pancreatic diabetes;
• uncontrolled hypokalemia;
• idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis;
• uncontrolled arterial hypertension;
• arrhythmia, prolongation of Q-T interval on ECG;
• coronary heart disease, stenocardia;
• various hypoxia;
• cataract, glaucoma;
• osteoporosis;
• pregnancy, breast-feeding.
Side effects:
Salmeterol
Cardiovascular system: palpitation, headache; seldom (predisposed patients) - rhythm disturbance (including ciliary arrhythmia, supraventricular tachycardia, extrasystole).
Allergic reactions: rash, angioedema.
Other: tremor, arthralgia, guttur mucous membrane irritation; in isolated cases - muscular spasmes.
Fluticasone
Respiratory system: hoarseness, oral cavity and throat candidiasis, paradoxical bronchospasm.
Other: in isolated cases - allergic skin reactions.
Interactions:
Diseases accompanied by inversive respiratory obstruction are not recommended to be treated with both nonselective, and cardiospecific beta-adrenergic blocking agent (propranolol, atenolol, metoprolol, etc.) except for those cases when it is really necessary and it is proved (because of bronchospasm progression hazard).
Derivants of xanthine (dimethylxanthine, aminophylline), glucocorticosteroids (prednisolone, triamcinolone, dexamethasone) and diuretics (furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide) raise risk of hypokalemia progression (especially in patients with bronchial asthma aggravation).
Monoamine oxidase inhibitirs and tricyclic antidepressants increase risk of side effects progression in cardiovascular system.
Advair (fluticasone/salmeterol) is compatible with cromoglicic acid.
