Flovent (Fluticasone propionate)
Description
Flovent (Fluticasone propionate) given by inhalation offers preventative treatment for asthma. At recommended doses it has a potent glucocorticoid anti-inflammatory action within the lungs, with a lower incidence and severity of adverse effects than those observed when corticosteroids are administered systemically.

Active Ingredients:
Fluticasone propionate
Therapeutic actions:
Glucocorticoid preparation for inhalant application. In recommended dozes it has an anti-inflammatory effect that promotes reduction symptoms evidence, frequencies and severtiy of diseases, accompanied by respiratory obstruction (bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema).
What is it used for?:
• Basic anti-inflammatory therapy of spasmodic asthma (including anabasis) in adults and children of one year and upward;
• Treatment of chronic obstructive lungs disease (including chronic bronchitis and emphysema)
Contraindications and cautions:
• Known sensitivity or allergy to any ingredient.
• Children under 16 years of age.
• Allergy to one or any of its ingredients
Side effects:
Yeast infection of the mouth (oral thrush)
• Throat irritation
• Hoarse voice
• Unexpected narrowing of the airways (paradoxical bronchospasm)
• Systemic effects (eg, Cushingis syndrome, adrenal suppression, growth retardation in children and adolescents, decreased bone mineral density, cataract and glaucoma) may occur after taking high doses for prolonged periods - see warning above.
Interactions:
The following medicines may increase the amount of fluticasone that is found in the bloodstream after inhaling the medicine:
• ketoconazole, itraconazole
• protease inhibitors for HIV infection, such as ritonavir.
Ritonavir also must be used with caution.
