Bonviva (Ibandronic acid)
Description
Bonviva is a potent bisphosphonate drug used in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. It may also be used to treat hypercalcemia (elevated blood calcium levels). It is an inhibitor of bone resorption and osteoclasts activity. At women in menopaus Bonviva reduces the increased bone turnover rate to the level of reproductive age that leads to the general progressing increase of bone content. It is used for treatment and prophylaxis of osteoporosis in post-menopausal women, prophylaxis of fractures.

Active Ingredients:
Ibandronic acid
Therapeutic actions:
Highly active nitrogen bisphosphonate, inhibitor of bone resorption and osteoclasts activity. Ibandronic acid prevents progression of bone destruction, caused by sexual glands function obstruction, retinoids, and tumors.
What is it used for?:
Ibandronate is indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in post-menopausal women.
Contraindications and cautions:
Known allergic reaction to Ibandronic acid or any other Bovivas ingridients;
Known or supposed low level of calcium in blood;
Children;
Pregnancy;
Breast-feeding.
Be cautious while using Bonviva if:
You have mineral turnover distress (e.g. vitamin D deficit);
You cant stand or sit upright in the space of an hour;
Your have kidneys function disorder.
Side effects:
Possible effects: bladder pain, frequent urge to urinate, bloody or cloudy urine, wheezing, cough producing mucus, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, painful, difficult, or burning urination, lower back or side pain, pounding in the ears, chest pain, nervousness, sneezing, slow or fast heartbeat, sore throat, fever or chills, tightness in chest.
Seldom: bloody or cloudy urine, skin rash, congestion, aches and pains, dizziness, dryness of throat, frequent urge to urinate, hives, tiredness or weakness, itching, hoarseness, numbness, puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue, runny nose, swollen glands in neck, fast heartbeat, tingling, trouble swallowing, difficulty swallowing, voice changes.
Interactions:
Calcium medicines, antacids and some other peroral medicines that contain multivalent cations (aluminium, magnesium, ferrum) may interrupt imbibitions;
Interval between intake of Bonviva and other peroral medicines should be no less than 60 minutes.
Ranitidine at intravenous injection increases bioavailability of Ibandronic acid.
